The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a major update for EPF account holders. Individuals who have received official notifications from EPFO must now complete the UAN Face Authentication process through the UMANG App.
According to EPFO, this verification has been made mandatory for claiming benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).
The move aims to strengthen identity verification and prevent fraudulent claims while ensuring that benefits reach eligible employees securely.
What Is PMVBRY Scheme?
The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) is a Central Government employment scheme designed to support eligible first-time employees.
Under this initiative, qualifying beneficiaries receive wage-related incentives from the government.
To identify genuine beneficiaries and verify their eligibility, EPFO has now made Aadhaar-based Face Authentication compulsory through the UMANG platform.
Which Apps Are Required for UAN Face Authentication?
Before starting the verification process, users must install the following applications on their smartphone:
UMANG App
AadhaarFaceRD App
EPFO has clarified that the face authentication process cannot be completed unless both apps are installed properly.
Step-by-Step Guide to Complete UAN Face Authentication
EPFO members can complete the verification process from home by following these simple steps.
Step 1: Login to UMANG App
Open the UMANG App on your smartphone and log in using:
Registered mobile number
MPIN
If you are a new user, you may first need to complete registration on the app.
Step 2: Search for EPFO Services
After logging in:
Go to the search bar
Type “EPFO Services”
Select the “Face Authentication” option
This will open the authentication page.
Step 3: Enter Required Details
Users must now provide:
UAN (Universal Account Number)
Aadhaar number
Registered mobile number
Make sure the mobile number linked with Aadhaar is active for OTP verification.
Step 4: Complete OTP Verification
The system will ask for consent for Aadhaar authentication.
After granting permission:
An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number
Enter the OTP to continue the process
This step confirms your identity before facial verification begins.
Step 5: Face Verification Through AadhaarFaceRD App
Once OTP verification is completed, the system will automatically redirect you to the AadhaarFaceRD App.
Now:
Position your face properly in front of the camera
Follow the on-screen instructions carefully
Blink your eyes if prompted
The app will capture your facial image and match it with Aadhaar records to verify your identity.
Why Has EPFO Introduced Face Authentication?
The EPFO has been increasingly adopting digital verification technologies to improve security and streamline claim processing.
According to experts, face authentication offers several advantages:
Prevents identity fraud
Reduces fake PF claims
Enables secure remote verification
Eliminates the need for physical visits
Speeds up benefit processing
The move is also aligned with the government’s push toward paperless digital governance.
Important Things Users Should Keep in Mind
Before starting the verification process, users should ensure:
Aadhaar is linked with UAN
Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active
Smartphone camera is functioning properly
Stable internet connection is available
Both required apps are updated to latest versions
Failure to complete face authentication may delay benefit claims under PMVBRY.
EPFO Continues Digital Transformation Push
In recent years, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has introduced multiple digital initiatives to simplify services for crores of subscribers across India.
Features such as:
Online PF withdrawal
Digital KYC updates
Aadhaar-linked services
Online claim tracking
Face authentication verification
have significantly reduced paperwork and dependency on physical EPFO office visits.
The latest face authentication system is expected to make employee verification more secure and efficient in the coming months.
EPFO Members Advised to Complete Verification Promptly
Experts advise EPFO members who have received official notifications regarding PMVBRY verification to complete the face authentication process at the earliest.
Completing the process promptly can help avoid delays in accessing benefits and ensure smooth claim processing under the scheme.
