Firing near the hotel of the Norwegian team spread panic in the area. The incident occurred shortly before the opening match. Two people have died in this. According to reports, six people were also injured in the firing. This includes policemen as well.

 

However, this incident did not affect the match. The opening match started at its scheduled time. New Zealand's Prime Minister Chris Hipkins informed everyone about the incident. He said that this is not a terrorist attack. Hopkins said, "This is not a matter related to any threat to national security. The tournament will start at its own time." News agency Reuters reported that the shooting occurred near the hotel of the Norwegian players. The players are informed about their well-being on social media.

The players were instructed not to leave the hotel after the firing. At the same time, the American Embassy informed about the safety of its players. US Vice President Kamala Harris is in Auckland to attend the opening ceremony. She is safe with her husband, Douglas Emhoff. When FIFA was asked about this, it said that the organization is aware of the matter and it will not affect the tournament. The opening match will start on its own time.

 

There will be a total of 64 matches in the tournament

The US team has entered as the defending champions. She has become champion four times. This is the ninth edition of the tournament. The US team will go for the title hat trick. She won in 2015 as well. This time matches will be played on 10 grounds in nine cities in Australia-New Zealand. A total of 64 matches will be played in this month-long tournament.
