Gyanvapi Case: Lawyer asked for next date citing ill health, court imposed fine; Now hearing on 21st February

On Friday, the court imposed a compensation of one thousand rupees on the application filed demanding a survey of the entire premises of Gyanvapi and asked for the next date of hearing saying that the lawyer was unwell. The next hearing will be held on the 21st.

 

A hearing was held in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division Fast Track) Prashant Kumar Singh on Friday on the application filed by lawyer Vijay Shankar Rastogi in the 1991 case filed by self-styled Vishveshwar Jyotirling, demanding a survey of the entire Gyanvapi.

 

Demand for adjournment of hearing due to ill health

Objections were filed on behalf of Anjuman Intejamia Masajid and the Sunni Central Waqf Board. At the same time, on behalf of plaintiff party number four (late Harihar Pandey), his sons Pranay Kumar Pandey and Karan Shankar Pandey appealed for another date for hearing. It was said on behalf of both of them that due to ill health, their lawyer Harishankar Jain could not come from Delhi.

Opposition to the demand for adjournment of the hearing

Vijay Shankar Rastogi opposed the demand for adjournment of the hearing. He said that the High Court had ordered to dispose of the case within six months. The hearing will be unnecessarily affected by such an adjournment application. The court accepted the appeal of Pranay and Karna but also imposed a compensation of Rs 1000 on both of them. On behalf of Shailendra Pathak, grandson of Pt. Somnath Vyas, an application has also been given to make him a party in this case. His lawyer Sudhir Tripathi raised this issue during the hearing.

Late Harihar Nath Pandey and Rasrang Sharma, who were parties along with Pt. Somnath Vyas on behalf of the self-styled Vishveshwar Jyotirling regarding the construction of a new temple in Gyanvapi and giving the right to worship to Hindus, filed an appeal in the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) on 15 October 1991. I filed a case. Pt. Somnath Vyas died on March 7, 2000. To plead in his place, the court-appointed former district government advocate (civil) Vijay Shankar Rastogi as amicus curiae. Harihar Nath Pandey also died on 10 December 2023. On January 19, 2024, both his sons had applied to become parties in the case in place of their father.

 

Namaz held under tight security

Amid tight security arrangements, people offered Namaz at Gyanvapi and other places on Friday. Given security, the Additional Commissioner of Police and Law and Order himself is maintaining the front with heavy force. On the other hand, ACP Atul Anjan Tripathi was roaming with Bhelupur police in the Bajardiha area.
