The match between India and Pakistan in the semi-finals of the World Championship of Legends (WCL 2025) was to be held today, i.e., on 31st July, but Indian players Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Shikhar Dhawan refused to play against Pakistan.
Because of this, it was decided to cancel the Indo-Pak match, and Pakistan got direct entry into the final without playing a match, as they were at the top of the points table.
A member of the India Champions team said that nothing is above the country, and hence, they do not regret this decision. He clarified that even if there was a match against Pakistan in the final, they would still not have played.
What did the India Champions say on the cancellation of the India vs Pakistan match?
The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan (Ind vs Pak) started with the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. During the Pahalgam attack, 5 terrorists attacked 26 tourists, most of whom were Hindus, forcibly killing a Christian tourist and a local Muslim man.
Then there is the unhealthy political situation related to the Indian Army's 'Operation Sindoor'. However, in international cricket, the two teams are currently scheduled to play matches in the Asia Cup on September 14 and the Women's ICC World Cup on October 6, but there has been no confirmed announcement yet that India will not play these matches.
But before the Asia Cup, India refused to play against Pakistan in the semi-final match of WCL 2025. This benefited Pakistan, and it reached the final of WCL 2025.
Even though this decision may not have helped India Champions get a ticket to the WCL 2025 KS final, a team member made it clear that the players have no regrets, because nothing is above the country.
A player of the India Champions told the Times of India on the condition of anonymity,
"We are not playing the semi-final (Ind vs Pak) against Pakistan. For us, country and nation come first, everything else comes later. Anything for India. We are proud members of the Indian team. We have worked hard and earned the Indian flag on our jersey. We will never let our country down. Bharat Mata ki Jai".
He further added that even if India had faced Pakistan in the final, the same decision would have been taken. We all Indians are of one mind.
