Heeraba's mother i.e. PM Modi's maternal grandmother died at a young age from the Spanish flu epidemic. Heeraben could not even remember her mother's face. Heeraba spent his entire childhood without his mother.

The secret to Hiraba's healthy life even at the age of 100 was simple living, simple food, and positive thoughts. Sleeping early and getting up early to do bhajan and worship were included in his daily activities. Hiraben was married to Damodardas Mulchand Modi. Heeraben and Damodardas had 6 children. Narendra Modi was number three.
