Himachal Rain: Red alert for heavy rain in these districts of Himachal, orders issued to keep schools closed today in many places, including Shimla

Heavy rains continue in Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains occurred in Kangra, Bilaspur, Kullu, Hamirpur, and Mandi on Monday amid the red alert issued by the Meteorological Department. Heavy damage has been caused at many places due to rain and landslides.

 

In view of the bad weather, educational institutions have been closed in the capital Shimla district today. As per the orders of the district administration, teaching work will also remain closed in Himachal Pradesh University on Tuesday.

Dean Studies Prof B K Shivram has issued a notification regarding this. Deputy Commissioner Shimla has issued orders to keep all types of educational institutions closed on Tuesday. Earlier, orders were issued to keep schools closed in Una, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, and Bilaspur on Tuesday.

 

Employee trapped in a vegetable market rescued

 

On the other hand, heavy rains have been occurring in Manali for the last two days, due to which the water level of the Beas river has increased considerably, and water is flowing on the road near the Green Tax Barrier Potato Ground. The road near Bindu Dhank has been washed away. Therefore, traffic has been diverted. At the same time, the employee trapped in the vegetable market has been rescued.

 

Due to rain and landslides, 793 roads in the state, including Ani-Kullu, Mandi-Kullu, Mandi-Pathankot, Jalandhar-Mandi, and Bharmour-Pathankot highways, have been closed.

 

Red alert in Chamba and Kangra

 

Along with this, 956 transformers and 517 drinking water schemes are stalled. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Chamba and Kangra and an orange alert for Kullu-Mandi districts on Tuesday. At the same time, there will be a yellow alert in Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Una.

 

The rain that had continued since late Sunday night in the capital, Shimla, continued on Monday as well. Due to a landslide in Tutikandi, a multi-storey house has come under threat. Kalka-Shimla National Highway was blocked for several hours due to debris and stones falling from the hill near Sanwara.

 

Landslide on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane

The Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway in Bilaspur remained closed for several hours due to a landslide. Two cars were badly damaged due to debris in Marotan. At the same time, five passengers suffered minor injuries when a Volvo was hit by a stone falling from the mountain.

 

In Mandi, about 300 vehicles were stuck inside the Hanogi tunnel and Rainsanala tunnel due to the closure of the Kiratpur-Manali highway on Sunday night. A cowshed has collapsed due to rain in Bhanvad of Sundarnagar. 15 houses are in danger due to land subsidence in Lach and Gata villages of Panchayat Tandi of Seraj.

 

Four houses have been evacuated. The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway has been restored after 13 hours. More than 100 vehicles were stuck on Jot Marg in Chamba on Sunday night. Due to a landslide on the Chamba-Bharmour road, many vehicles of pilgrims from Jammu-Kashmir and Punjab were stranded on Sunday night. After not getting any help for several hours, the pilgrims started raising slogans against the government and DC Chamba.

 

Four pilgrims from Punjab who had gone for the Mani Mahesh Yatra died amid bad weather. These include Aman (18) of district Sujanpur, Pathankot, Rohit (18) of Pathankot, and Anmol (26) resident of Gurdaspur. Another has not been identified. Meanwhile, the administration has banned the Mani Mahesh Yatra till further orders. SDM will stop pilgrims from going to Mani Mahesh in his area.
