Maldives Opposition Party boycott President Speech: Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu has announced the return of Indian soldiers to their country. He announced this in his first speech in the Parliament of Maldives. However, the President's address was boycotted by opposition parties. Only 24 MPs were present during his address.

Only 24 MPs attended President Muizzu's address at the inaugural session of the Parliament of Maldives (People's Majlis), a Maldives-based online news outlet reported.

 

56 MPs boycotted

 

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Democrats decided to boycott the Parliament due to the undemocratic methods of the government.

 

A total of 56 MPs boycotted the President's address.

 

These include 13 MPs from the Democrats and 44 MPs from the MDP.

 

According to media reports, when the meeting started at 9 am, only 24 MPs were present in the Parliament.

According to media reports, a boycott of the President's address was announced by the MPs. These MPs were presided over by MP Mohammad Aslam. It is being told that the MPs have presented a no-confidence motion against President Muizzu.

Earlier, the Maldives President's Office had made a post on X. He said that President Mohammed Muizzu and the First Lady attended the inauguration of the Maldives Parliament. According to the report, the President said in his address that he has decided not to appoint more people to senior political positions given the current economic and financial situation of the country.
