
President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. He virtually inaugurated these projects. These include the inauguration of 'PARAM Kamrup', a supercomputer facility under the National Supercomputing Mission, and a laboratory for the design and development of high-powered microwave components at IIT Guwahati.
Many other inaugurations were also done
Murmu also inaugurated Dhubri Medical College and Hospital in Assam and laid the foundation stone of regional institutes of the National Institute of Virology at Dibrugarh and Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
IIT-G needs to boost other institutions in the Northeast
President Draupadi Murmu stressed the need to promote the importance of a knowledge-based society and technology-based solutions to the country's problems. He also underlined the role of higher educational institutions in this context. The President was speaking after digitally inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for various central and state projects from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati on Thursday.
These projects include the inauguration of the supercomputer 'PARAM Kamrup' under the National Super Computing Mission and a laboratory for the design and development of high-powered microwave components at IIT-Guwahati. Murmu also digitally inaugurated Dhubri Medical College and Hospital and laid the foundation stone of regional institutes of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Dibrugarh in Assam and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh at the same event. Appreciating the achievements of IIT-Guwahati, the President emphasized the role of the Institute in this field.
He said, being the only IIT in the Northeast, it should take up the responsibility of grooming other institutions in the region so that they can work closely with the state government and defense forces to strengthen our borders and prevent natural calamities in the region. Provide technical solutions to prevent a recurrence. Murmu also called upon the people of the North Eastern region to play a leading role in building a knowledge-based society.
The President also referred to the age-old tradition of research in India and stressed the need to carry it forward in the present times. Murmu said that the benefits of technology should reach the far-flung corners of society. Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma, Union Minister Bharati Praveen Pawar, IIT-Guwahati Director TG Sitaram, and other dignitaries were present at the event. The President is on a two-day visit to Assam.
President Murmu gave the green signal for the expansion of two trains in Tripura
Earlier, two trains of North Frontier Railway were flagged off at Agartala on Thursday morning. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was also present on the occasion. President Murmu first flagged off the extension of the Guwahati-Kolkata-Guwahati train up to Agartala and then extended the Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Shatabdi Express up to Khongsang, Manipur.
