Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir has criticized former Australian captain Ricky Ponting's statement on Virat Kohli's form. During the press conference before the Australia tour, Gambhir supported senior batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ponting recently commented on Kohli's form and said that if any other player other than Kohli had scored two centuries in five years, he would not have been in the team. Now Gambhir has targeted Ponting.
When Gambhir was asked about the poor form of senior players in the press conference before leaving for the five-match Test series, the head coach said that Ponting has nothing to do with Indian cricket. He said that Kohli and Rohit have the hunger to perform well for the team. He said, 'What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket? I think he should think about Australian cricket. The most important thing is that he does not have any kind of concern for Virat and Rohit.
Gambhir said, 'I think Rohit and Virat are very strong players. They have achieved a lot for Indian cricket and will continue to do so in the future. The most important thing for me is that they still work hard and are still passionate about Indian cricket, they still want to achieve a lot and this is very important. The hunger for runs, wickets, or wins in the Indian dressing room is important to me and the same thing is important for the rest of the dressing room. I think there is a lot of hunger in the Indian team and especially after what happened in the last series, our players want to do well.
