IND vs SA Day 3 of the first Test: Play will start at 1 pm; Shatakvir Elgar is not out, and South Africa is ahead by 11 runs

The first Test between India and South Africa is being played in Centurion. On the second day, South Africa scored 256 runs for 5 wickets. The team has got a lead of 11 runs. Today i.e. Thursday, the third day's play will start at 1 pm.

 

From South Africa, Dean Elgar remained not out along with Marco Janson (3* runs) after scoring 140 runs. Both will lead South Africa's first innings today. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj took 2-2 wickets from India.

 

On the second day, India was all out after scoring 245 runs. KL Rahul scored a century, he was out after scoring 101 runs. Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets and Nandre Berger took 3 wickets from South Africa.

 

Weather Report: No chance of rain

There is just a 5% chance of rain in Centurion on Thursday. It will be sunny throughout the day and a game of 98 overs may be possible on the third day. About 45 overs of play was lost on the first and second days due to rain and bad light.

 

Elgar is not out after scoring the 14th test century

Former South African captain Dean Elgar scored a century. He remained not out till the end of the second day's play after scoring 140 runs. He made partnerships of 93 runs with Tony DeGeorge and 131 runs with David Bedingham.

 

Dean Elgar completed his 14th Test century off 140 balls. He is playing the last series of his international career, he had announced his retirement even before the series.

 

Records made so far in the match

 

KL Rahul became the first foreigner to score 2 centuries in Centurion. He had scored a century on the same ground in 2021 also.

 

Dean Elgar scored a Test century after almost 3 years. He scored his last century against Sri Lanka in January 2021. In January 2022, Elgar won the Test for South Africa by scoring 96 not out against India.

 

Kagiso Rabada has taken 500 international wickets. He took 5 wickets in the first innings, he got 5 wickets against India for the first time.

 

Now there will be 98 overs played every day

Play on the first and second days at the SuperSport Park stadium was ended early due to rain and bad light. There will be a maximum of 98 overs played every day from the third to the fifth day. Only 59 overs could be played on the first day and 75 overs on the second. About 45 fewer overs were bowled on both days together, so to cover them, now 8 more overs will be bowled every day. A day of the Men's Test usually consists of 90 overs of play.

 

Centuries from Elgar and Rahul on the second day

On the second day, India started playing with a score of 208/8. KL Rahul scored 101 runs and the team was all out after scoring 245 runs. Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets. South Africa scored 256 runs for 5 wickets in the first innings and took a lead of 11 runs. Dean Elgar remained not out from the team after scoring 140 runs.

 

For South Africa, David Bedingham scored 56 and Tony De Georgi scored 28 runs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj from India got 2 successes each. While Prasidh Krishna also got one wicket.

 

India lost 8 wickets on the first day

On the first day of the first Test, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. Even after taking 3 wickets for 24 runs, the team allowed India to score 208 runs till the end of the day's play. Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets from South Africa. While Nandre Berger got 2 and Marco Jansson got one success.

 

KL Rahul from India remained not out after scoring 70 runs. Whereas Virat Kohli scored 38, Shreyas Iyer scored 31, Shardul Thakur scored 24 and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 17 runs. The rest of the batsmen could not even touch the score of 10 runs.
