Former South African captain Dean Elgar scored a century. He remained not out till the end of the second day's play after scoring 140 runs. He made partnerships of 93 runs with Tony DeGeorge and 131 runs with David Bedingham.
Dean Elgar completed his 14th Test century off 140 balls. He is playing the last series of his international career, he had announced his retirement even before the series.

On the first day of the first Test, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. Even after taking 3 wickets for 24 runs, the team allowed India to score 208 runs till the end of the day's play. Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets from South Africa. While Nandre Berger got 2 and Marco Jansson got one success.
