IND vs SA: Steve Waugh's record on target of Virat Kohli, but will not be able to surpass Ricky Ponting and Graeme Smith in 2022

Virat Kohli has become the best captain of India in Test cricket. Now his eyes are to play his danka across the world. In terms of performance, Kohli's team has been at the fore in the last two to three years. Kohli is eyeing to be the best in statistics. In the remaining two Test matches against South Africa, he will have a chance to leave behind the legendary Australian captain Steve Waugh.

 

 

Kohli has 40 wins in 67 matches under his captaincy. They have lost in 16 matches. 11 matches have been drawn. Steve Waugh is ahead of Virat in terms of winning most Tests as captain. Waugh captained Australia in 57 matches. They won 41 matches and lost only nine matches. Seven matches under Waugh's captaincy were drawn. If Kohli wins the next Test in Johannesburg, then he will equalize them. If Team India is successful in annihilating South Africa, then in Cape Town, Virat will be ahead of the former Australia captain.

What is the record of Ponting and Smith?

Kohli will overtake Steve Waugh in 2022, but will not be able to break the record of former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and former South Africa captain Graeme Smith. Smith is the player to have won the most Test matches as a captain in Test cricket. Ponting has won 48 out of 77 matches and Smith has won 53 in 109 matches.

 

How will Virat get ahead of Ponting and Smith?

Kohli will need nine in 2022 to overtake Ponting and 14 matches to be ahead of Smith. Team India is going to play only five Tests in 2022 according to the schedule announced so far. He has to play two Tests against South Africa, two Tests against Sri Lanka, and one Test against England. Kohli will have to wait a long time to break Smith's record.

 

Kohli most successful captain of India

Kohli is India's most successful captain in Test cricket. He has captained the most in 67 matches. Have won 40 matches at most. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is second in terms of wins. Dhoni led the team in 60 matches and won 27 matches. Sourav Ganguly led India in 49 matches. He had won 21 matches. Under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin, India won 14 out of 47 matches and lost 14.
