Ind vs SL: Kohli has a chance to make a record in Mohali Test which no Indian batsman has made

Posted on 1st Mar 2022 11:01 am by rohit kumar

Indian cricket will enter a new era with the first Test of the two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka starting in Mohali on March 4. 34-year-old Rohit Sharma will be seen playing as a Test captain for the first time, while 33-year-old former captain Virat Kohli will enter a Test match only after more than seven years as a batsman. In this way, this Test match will be memorable for Rohit, as well as it is special for Virat because it will be the 100th Test match of Virat's career. In such a situation, Virat would like to make his 100th Test memorable by scoring a century in Mohali.

Virat made his last international century in November 2019 against Bangladesh in the Day-Night Test played in Kolkata. Since then Virat has played 27 innings of 15 Tests, but no century came off his bat. During this, he has scored only six half-centuries and his highest score is 79 runs. During this, his batting average has also been only 28.14. On the other hand, if we talk about all three formats, since the last century, Virat has played 70 innings of 61 matches, in which his highest score is 94 not out. During this, he scored 24 half-centuries and averaged 38.04.

The amazing thing is that despite this poor record for a long time, Virat has scored 27 centuries in Tests and 70 centuries in all three formats in his name. Even today, his Test batting average is 50.39, while in all three formats it averages 54.30. Virat's centuries and average show how big a batsman he is and now when he enters his 100th Test, he would like to end his century drought. It will be an advantage for him that now he will be able to bat freely due to not having the responsibility of captaincy.

Mohali is also waiting for Virat's century: There is also a matter of concern for Virat that IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali is included in the stadium where he has not been able to score any Test century so far. Here he has played three Tests so far and has scored 199 runs at an average of 49.75 with two half-centuries. During this, his highest score was 67 not out. In this way, Mohali is also waiting for Virat's century.

No Indian could score a century in the 100th Test: Colin Cowdrey of England was the first player in the world to play 100 Tests. He achieved this feat in the Birmingham Test during the Ashes series against Australia in July 1968. He scored 104 runs in the first innings of this Test and thus became not only the first player in the world to play 100 Tests but also the first player to score a century in the 100th Test. By the way, so far nine players have scored a century in their 100th Test.

Australia's Ricky Ponting is the only player to score a century in both innings of his 100th Test, while England's Joe Root is the only player to score a double century in the 100th Test. Apart from Cowdrey, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ricky Ponting, Graeme Smith, and Joe Root are among those players who were captains of their team as well as scoring centuries in their 100th Test. So far 11 Indians have played 100 Tests, but no Indian has been able to score a century in his 100th Test. In such a situation, now everyone will be expected from Virat to score a century in his 100th Test and register the presence of Indians in this list.
