The Indian cricket team started the five-match T20 series against the West Indies with a defeat. West Indies defeated India by four runs in the first T20 on Thursday. The performance of the Indian batting unit was poor in a thrilling contest. Barring international debutant Tilak Verma, none of the batsmen were able to play with the confidence that was expected from the Indian team. After the match, skipper Hardik Pandya admitted that the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals without building good partnerships, which made things difficult for them. Hardik blamed his and Sanju Samson's wickets for the defeat.
Hardik said- We were chasing the target well and things were looking easy. We made some mistakes which cost us the match. A young team will make mistakes. We will move forward together. Throughout the match, we were in control of the game. This is the positive of this game. Four more good matches to come. Hardik admitted that keeping a wicket in hand is important for any chase. India lost the wickets of both Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson in the 16th over. From here the match turned.
Referring to this, Hardik said, "In T20 cricket, if you lose wickets, it becomes difficult to chase any target. The same happened in this match. A few good hits or bad hits can change the course of the match." When we lost a few wickets, it made it difficult to chase our target.
Regarding playing-11, Hardik said- We would like to give two wrist spinners (Kuldeep and Chahal) a chance to play together. Akshar is also known for his batting in the lower order. We felt it was the right combination. Really good two weeks for Mukesh Kumar in the West Indies where he made his debut in all three formats. Mukesh is a good person. His heart is pure. He wants to contribute to the team. He bowled a couple of overs in a row and he was brilliant.
There are still four more matches left in the T20 series. India will expect the team to perform well as a unit soon. The second T20 will be played in Guyana on August 6 ie Sunday. And the third T20 will be held in Guyana on August 8 only. On 12 and 13 August, the team will play two consecutive T20s. Both these matches will be played in Florida.
