India vs West Indies: India lost to West Indies in the second T20 too, trailing 0-2 in the series; Gill and Suryakumar fail again

In the second T20 against the West Indies, the Indian team faced a two-wicket defeat in a thrilling match. With this defeat, Team India has gone 0-2 in the five-match series. Batting first, India scored 152 runs losing seven wickets. In response, West Indies lost eight wickets and scored 155 runs in 18.5 overs, and won the match. Tilak Verma scored the maximum 51 runs for India. Hardik took three and Chahal took two wickets. Nicholas Pooran played a match-winning inning of 67 runs for the West Indies. Akil Hussain, Romario Shepherd, and Alzarri Joseph took two wickets each.

 

With the loss of the first two matches of the series, every match has become do-or-die for the Indian team. To win the series, India will have to win the remaining three matches. At the same time, West Indies will now win the series after winning another match.

 

What happened in the first innings?

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Indian team made a very slow start. Only one run was scored in the first over. In the second over, Kishan hit a six, but after two overs, India were nine. In the third over, Gill hit a six and in an attempt to play a big shot on the next ball, Alzarri became the victim of Joseph. Gill's poor form continued and he could manage only seven runs. In the very next over, Suryakumar Yadav was run out by Kyle Meyers by hitting an accurate throw. Suryakumar scored just one run.

 

Team India came on the back foot after falling for two wickets for 18 runs. In such a situation, Tilak Verma, playing his second T20 match for India, handled the innings along with Ishaan Kishan. Both added 42 runs for the third wicket. After this, Kishan was also dismissed after scoring 27 runs in 23 balls. Romario Shepherd clean-bowled him. Sanju Samson also got out in an attempt to make a big shot after scoring seven runs. Pooran stumped him on the ball of Akil Hussain.

 

Tilak Verma's half-century

India had lost four wickets for 76 runs. Tilak, along with captain Hardik, took the Indian team beyond 100 runs. During this, he also completed the first half-century of his T20 career. The 20-year-old Tilak became the second young player after Rohit Sharma to score a fifty in T20s for India. He added 38 runs with Hardik for the fifth wicket. Tilak got out after scoring 51 runs in 41 balls with the help of five fours and a six. He lost his wicket in an attempt to hit a six off Akil Hossain.

 

Arshdeep-Bishnoi crossed 150

Stormy batting was expected from Hardik in the end overs, but he was also dismissed after scoring 24 runs in 18 balls with the help of two fours. Alzarri Joseph clean bowled him on a precise yorker. Now Akshar Patel was the last batsman. He was also dismissed trying to pull the ball from Shepherd in the last over. Akshar scored 14 runs in 12 balls. In the last over, Arshdeep Singh hit a four, and Ravi Bishnoi hit a six to take India past 150 runs. In the end, Team India managed to score 152 runs for seven wickets.

 

Bad start for West Indies

Chasing the target of 153 runs, the West Indies team got off to a very bad start. Brendon King got out on the very first ball of the innings. Hardik did not even let him open the account and got caught by Suryakumar. Johnson Charles also became the victim of Hardik on the fourth ball of the very first over. Tilak Verma caught his catch on a personal score of two runs. The West Indies were struggling after losing two wickets for two runs. After this, Puran, who came at number four, started the counterattack by batting aggressively. He along with Meyers collected 17 runs in Hardik's second over. However, Meyers' innings did not last long and he was dismissed after scoring 15 runs in seven balls. Arshdeep trapped him in front of the wickets.

 

The West Indies team was struggling after losing three wickets for 32 runs. In such a situation, Puran put pressure on the Indian bowlers by playing big shots continuously. He thrashed Ravi Bishnoi fiercely in the last over of the powerplay and scored 18 runs. West Indies were 61/3 after the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran along with captain Rovman Powell added 57 runs for the fourth wicket. During this, he also completed his half-century in 29 balls. Powell became Hardik's third victim after scoring 21 runs in 19 balls.

 

Pooran played the match-winning innings

India's hopes of a comeback were raised after Powell's dismissal, but Pooran continued to bat aggressively and took West Indies to 100 for four. He has been dismissed after scoring 67 runs in 40 balls. He hit six fours and six sixes in his innings. Mukesh Kumar got him caught by Sanju Samson. However, by then the West Indies team had scored 126 runs chasing 153 runs and needed 27 runs in 30 balls to win.

 

Akil Hussain-Alzarri Joseph finished the match

Chahal, who came for the 16th over of the West Indies innings, turned the match. Romario Shepherd was run out in his over. After this, Chahal got Jason Holder stumped out by Ishan and trapped Shimron Hetmyer in front of the wickets on the last ball. Now eight wickets of West Indies had fallen. There were two tailenders at the crease and 23 runs were needed from 24 balls to win. However, Aqeel Hussain and Alzarri Joseph put on an unbeaten 26-run partnership in 17 balls for the ninth wicket to take their side to victory with seven balls to spare. With this victory, the West Indies team went ahead 2-0 in the five-match series.
