iOS 27 Release Date: Apple Rolls Out Update on September 14 With New Siri AI Features

Apple is set to roll out iOS 27 on September 14, 2026, bringing a major new version of its iPhone software to compatible devices. iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and watchOS 27 will also become available from September 14. The biggest talking point is Siri AI, Apple's next-generation virtual assistant powered by Apple Intelligence.

 

Apple first previewed the next generation of Apple Intelligence and its redesigned Siri experience at WWDC 2026. With iOS 27, Siri is being positioned as a more capable and personal assistant that can understand context, work across apps and help users find information from their own content.

 

What Is New With Siri AI?

 

The new Siri AI goes well beyond the traditional voice-assistant experience. Apple says users can type or speak naturally to Siri to find information and complete tasks.

 

One of the biggest upgrades is personal context understanding. Siri AI can search through relevant information in areas such as Messages, Mail, Photos and Notes to help users find something they are looking for. For example, it can locate an older email, find photos from a previous trip or surface information shared in a message.

 

Siri AI Can Take Actions Across Apps

 

Siri AI is also designed to perform actions across supported apps. Apple says Siri can take actions in apps such as Messages, Music and Reminders based on what the user is trying to accomplish.

 

This means Siri is moving from simply answering questions towards becoming an assistant that can help users get things done across the iPhone.

 

Dedicated Siri App

 

Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app, where users can start new conversations and revisit previous ones. Conversation history can be privately synced across supported Apple devices using iCloud.

 

Siri AI Gets On-Screen Awareness

 

Another major capability is Siri's ability to understand information displayed on the user's screen.

 

Apple says Siri AI can answer questions related to on-screen content and use information from the device's apps and personal context to provide more relevant assistance. It can also access the web for up-to-date information when required.

 

Apple and Google Gemini: What's the Connection?

 

Apple's new AI system has also been linked to Google's Gemini technology. Reports have said that Google Gemini technology has been used in the development of Apple's AI models.

 

However, Apple's implementation is built around Apple Intelligence and Apple's own systems, rather than simply putting the consumer Google Gemini app inside Siri. Reports have described Apple's approach as using distilled Gemini technology alongside Apple's own models and infrastructure.

 

Apple also says its AI architecture is designed with privacy in mind, with processing handled on-device where possible and through Private Cloud Compute for more complex requests.

 

Will Every iPhone Get Siri AI With iOS 27?

 

No. This is one of the most important points for iPhone users.

 

Receiving the iOS 27 software update does not automatically mean that an iPhone will receive every Apple Intelligence or Siri AI feature.

 

Apple lists Siri AI and Apple Intelligence support for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models or later.

 

Therefore, some older iPhones may be eligible for iOS 27 itself but will not receive the full set of Apple Intelligence capabilities.

 

What About iPads?

 

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI support on iPad also depends on the hardware.

 

Apple lists the iPad mini with A17 Pro and iPad models powered by the M1 chip or newer among the supported devices.

 

This means an iPad receiving iPadOS 27 may still lack some of the new AI capabilities if its hardware does not meet Apple's requirements.

 

What Is New in macOS 27?

 

Mac users will also receive macOS 27 on September 14. Apple is bringing the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI to the Mac alongside its other software platforms.

 

Siri AI can work with personal context, answer questions about on-screen information and perform actions across supported apps. Apple has also introduced broader interface and system-level changes across its latest software platforms.

 

Siri AI Initially Rolling Out in English

 

Another important detail is language support.

 

Apple's current iOS 27 page states that Siri AI is rolling out in English. Apple has said that it plans to expand support to additional languages, while feature availability can vary depending on language, device and region.

 

Users should therefore check Apple's regional availability information before assuming that every Siri AI capability will work on their device.

 

iOS 27 Brings More Than Siri AI

 

Although Siri AI is the headline feature, iOS 27 includes several other changes.

 

Apple highlights new AI-powered photo editing capabilities, including Spatial Reframing and an upgraded Clean Up tool, alongside broader Apple Intelligence improvements.

 

The update therefore represents more than a routine software refresh, with Apple using iOS 27 to push its AI strategy deeper into everyday iPhone experiences.
