Kishan's double century came off 270 deliveries. It was his second first-class double hundred after his 273 against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy in 2016. He also became only the seventh batter to score a double century in a Duleep Trophy final.

Ishan Kishan Retired Hurt at 250, Then Returned

Kishan's marathon innings was briefly interrupted when he retired hurt after reaching 250. He appeared exhausted in Chennai's humid conditions and left the field after consulting the team physiotherapist.

At the time, East Zone were 611/5. After spending time recovering, Kishan returned to the middle following the fall of another wicket and added another 20 runs before eventually being dismissed for 270.

His dismissal came when he attempted to hit down the ground and was caught at long-on off Tripurana Vijay, who finished with four wickets.

Kumar Kushagra Hits Century

Kumar Kushagra provided excellent support to Kishan and scored 101 runs off 132 balls, including eight fours and five sixes.

Kushagra's century was his sixth in first-class cricket and formed part of a massive partnership with Kishan that helped East Zone take control of the final.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Also Made an Impact

East Zone had already made a strong start on the opening day. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 44 off 37 balls, while Abhimanyu Easwaran and Shikhar Mohan contributed 72 and 85 respectively.

Sooryavanshi and Easwaran put together a 100-run opening partnership before East Zone's middle order took control of the innings.

Mohammed Siraj Goes Wicketless

South Zone's bowling attack struggled to contain the East Zone batters over the 163 overs of the first innings.

Tripurana Vijay was the standout bowler with 4/180, while Chama Milind and Shreyas Gopal took two wickets each. Shaik Rasheed claimed one wicket, with Abhimanyu Easwaran also being run out.

Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, bowled 25 overs for 140 runs without taking a wicket.

East Zone Post 708 in Duleep Trophy Final

East Zone were eventually bowled out for 708 in 163 overs, putting South Zone under enormous pressure in the final.

The total is among the highest ever recorded in a Duleep Trophy final, while East Zone became the first side from the zone to cross 600 in the competition, according to Wisden.

Kishan's 270 was the headline act, but the contributions from Kushagra, Shikhar Mohan, Abhimanyu Easwaran and the lower order ensured East Zone built a commanding first-innings total.

The massive score has also put the spotlight back on Kishan's red-ball ambitions and potential Test comeback, with his latest domestic performance providing another strong statement to the selectors.
