Sri Lanka's young fast bowler Mathias Pathirana has been added to the team of Chennai Super Kings. He has been included in the squad in place of the injured Adam Milne. Milne had suffered a hamstring injury in Chennai's first match. After that, he has been out of the entire tournament. Mahisa Pathirana, who has been included in the team in his place, is a young fast bowler from Sri Lanka. The 19-year-old Pathirana was part of the Sri Lanka U-19 team in 2020 and 2022. He has been included in the Chennai team for Rs 20 lakh.

Pathirana is not only a fast bowler but also a useful batsman. In his youthful career, he has impressed with the bat as well. However, it will be a challenge for him to rein in the wide ball. He played brilliantly for Sri Lanka in the Under-19 Asia Cup but was unable to rein in the wide ball.

Pathirana was also a part of Sri Lanka's team in the Under 19 World Cup 2022 in West Indies. In this tournament, he took seven wickets at an average of 27.28. His economic rate was 6.16. He too can bowl fast and accurate yorkers like Malinga. He has played only one List A match and has played two T20 matches so far, but he has been associated with the team Chennai for a long time. Ahead of IPL 2021, Chennai had roped in Pathirana along with Mahesh Thekshana as a reserve player.

Mystery spinner Mahish Thekshana was bought by Chennai in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction for 70 lakhs. He has now become a part of Chennai's team and is also taking important wickets in the powerplay.
