Istanbul Blast: Bomb blast attacker arrested in Istanbul, 6 killed and 81 injured in a terrorist attack

The bomber of Sunday's bombing in the Turkish city of Istanbul has been arrested. Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu said on Monday that police had arrested the attacker, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency's Twitter account.

According to media reports, the blast occurred on a busy pedestrian street in the Taksim area of ​​central Istanbul. Meanwhile, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement saying the detonation "smells like terrorism". Let us tell you that the place where this bomb blast took place is very crowded. There are many shops and restaurants on this route full of locals.

 

Temporary media ban on reporting the blast

The Istanbul government's Ali Yerlikaya tweeted that the explosion occurred at around 4:20 p.m. Turkey's media watchdog has temporarily banned reporting of the blast. The Radio and Television Supreme Council has also taken the same step. A video posted online showed flames and a massive explosion. Other footage showed ambulances, fire trucks, and police at the scene.

According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, five prosecutors have been assigned to the blast investigation. Videos posted online showed a massive explosion and flames rising. Passengers ran away as soon as the incident happened. After the incident, along with the police, ambulances and fire engines reached there. Internet media users said shops were closed and the avenue was cordoned off.
