Ireland's most successful batsman Kevin O'Brien has said goodbye to international cricket. O'Brien announced his retirement via Twitter. O'Brien, who scored the fastest century in ICC World Cup history, has played a total of three Tests, 153 ODIs, and 110 T20 Internationals for Ireland. O'Brien had left his mark since his Under-19 days. In the 2004 Under-19 World Cup, Ireland reached the semi-finals and Kevin O'Brien was part of that team.
In June 2006, he made his international debut in an ODI match against England. O'Brien had taken the wicket of then England captain Andrew Strauss in his very first match. Apart from this, batting at number-8 in his debut match, he scored 35 runs in 48 balls. In March 2011, O'Brien played the most memorable innings of his career. In the ICC World Cup against England, Brian scored a century in just 50 balls, which is still the fastest century in the ICC World Cup.
In that match, England had set a target of 328 runs for Ireland to win. Which was achieved by Ireland in 49.1 overs for the loss of seven wickets. O'Brien then scored 113 runs off 63 balls and was the hero of Ireland's victory. This match is included of the most exciting matches in ICC World Cup history. No one would have thought that Ireland's team would beat England's team in the World Cup.
