Posted on 5th Aug 2023 02:01 pm by rohit kumar

The central government has banned the import of laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, and ultra-small computers and servers due to potential security flaws. For this, a notification was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), although they can be imported with certain conditions. At this time, the biggest question in the mind of most people is whether one can buy a laptop from abroad or not. Let's try to find the answer to this question.

What's in the notification?

First of all, let us try to know what is said in the notification issued by DGFT. In this notification issued by the government, it has been said that the import of laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, and ultra-small computers and servers has been banned from October 31, although they will be imported with certain conditions. This notification was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

On behalf of the ministry, it has been said that import will be allowed with a condition that the imported goods will be used only for the stated purposes and will not be sold. Further, the condition also includes that the products will be destroyed or re-exported after use. Also, any such import would require a license.

What will happen if I bring a laptop from outside?

The answer to this question is both yes and no. This might be a bit confusing for you. If you are traveling or going on a trip to another country and buying a laptop, tablet, or computer from there, then you can bring it without any hindrance.

New rule for e-commerce companies that import laptops etc. for sale. Apart from this, you can import a maximum of 20 laptops or tablets in one shipment, although you have to state that you will not sell them. Overall, you can bring a laptop or tablet for personal use and as a gift.
