New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) Ajay Maken, who led the Congress poll campaign for the Delhi assembly election, Sunday said the exit polls cannot be dismissed and if the forecast about the party's performance comes out correct, it will be a matter of concern.
"We cannot dismiss the exit polls. If these turn out to be true, it will be a matter of concern for us," Maken told IANS.
Exit polls released after Saturday's voting for the 70-member assembly said the Congress could slide further from the low it recorded in the 2013 assembly elections when it won only eight seats.
The exit polls said the Aam Aadmi Party was likely to get anywhere between 31 and a staggering 54 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party could bag 17 to 35 seats.
They said the Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years till December 2013, would be routed, winning no seat or at best four seats.
Votes will be counted Feb 10.
Based on feedback from workers and candidates, Congress leaders said they were expecting to win 12 to 15 seats.
However, the exit polls dampened the mood within the party.
"From what the exit polls have projected, you can imagine that the mood in the party will not be very optimistic," said a party leader, who did not want to be identified.
