Aligarh, March 22 (IANS) A group of Muslim intellectuals, teachers and students of Aligarh have decided to support the Congress in the Lok Sabha election nationwide.
The Millat Bedari Muhim Committee (MBMC) took the decision to protest against what it said the "rising tide of fascism and Hindutva" led by BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
"MBMC is very much concerned with the replacement of 'Har Har Mahadev' by 'Har Har Modi'," the group said in a statement.
MBMC secretary general Jasim Mohammad said his group will join a campaign led by film director Mahesh Bhatt in the Muslim areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Haryana in support of the Congress.
"Presently some communal elements are trying to subvert and hijack Indian democracy and it is necessary that the march of Hindutva is stopped," he said.
