The Supreme Court has given its verdict in the NEET PG counseling case stuck in the issue of reservation in OBC and EWS categories in NEET PG. According to the court, the reservation will be applicable in both OBC and EWS categories. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna delivered the verdict at 10:30 am. Supreme Court today i.e., on January 7 reserved the decision on the matter of giving quota in All India Quota (MBBS/BDS and MD/MS/MDS) to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). the decision has been given.

In fact, on the last day i.e. on Thursday, the Supreme Court had reserved its decision after hearing the arguments of all the parties in the NEET PG case, the entrance examination for the post-graduate course of medicine. After this, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna (Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna) will hear the verdict at 10:30 am today. Now counseling can start soon.

There is a lot of opposition to the implementation of reservations in the All India quota. The candidates say that the rules cannot be changed in the middle after the process of the NEET PG exam starts. At the same time, due to the delay in NEET-PG 2021 counseling in this regard, the resident doctors of Delhi are protesting. The doctors are demonstrating under the leadership of the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA). In such a situation, the candidates have got a big setback.

Why is the matter stuck?

The central government had approved 27 percent reservation for OBCs and 10 percent for EWS in medical admission. Under this, a provision was made to get an EWS reservation for those with an annual income of Rs 8 lakh. The Supreme Court had asked the central government to reconsider the matter. After this, a panel of three members deliberated on it. The Center said that as per the suggestion of the panel, the limit of 8 lakhs is appropriate. Subsequently, the notification of the Center and the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) dated July 29, under which the candidates had to provide 27 percent reservation to OBCs and 10 percent reservation in All India Quota medical seats to EWS students, were challenged in the Supreme Court by the candidates. Since then the matter was stuck in the court.
