Emphasizing natural farming, NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant on Monday said that it has become the need of the hour. He said that the cost of production of food grains has increased significantly due to the use of chemicals and fertilizers.
Scientific methods need to be recognized
Amitabh Kant, while addressing the workshop on Innovation Agriculture organized by NITI Aayog, said that India has now become an exporter of wheat and rice. He further said that we need this at this time and it is important that we can identify new scientific methods and ensure that how farmers can directly benefit from it and how their income increases. During this program, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand said that there are many systems available for natural farming, which can be adopted.
The use of fertilizers increased the cost
Kant further addressed that the increasing use of fertilizers and chemicals has led to an increase in the cost of production of food grains. Along with this, the cost of producing vegetables has also increased. The effect of this is being seen in the form of inflation in their prices. He said that natural farming is a chemical-free farming system. It is seen as a system based on agro-ecology. So we have to understand the positive and negative aspects of each method.
