With the increase in heat, the water crisis in Delhi has also deepened. Water supply has stopped in many areas of Delhi. Given this, the government has decided that in the areas where water is supplied twice a day, now it will be supplied only once. The remaining water will be given to those areas where water is not coming. Along with this, the government has appealed that the people of Delhi should not wash their cars with open pipes and prevent water from overflowing from the tanks. The fine can also be imposed for misuse of water. On the other hand, Delhi government minister Atishi has alleged that the Haryana government has reduced the supply of water in Yamuna from May 1. For this, the government can also knock on the doors of the court.
Delhi government minister Atishi said that in the summer months, an average of 674.5 feet of water has to be maintained in Yamuna. Last year, in April, May, and June, the same water level was always maintained in Wazirabad. But this year, from May 1, Haryana has reduced the supply of its share of water to Delhi and the water level of Yamuna is continuously falling. On May 1, the water level of Yamuna was 674.5 feet, which came down to 669.8 feet on May 28. Due to this, the water crisis in Delhi has increased. Given this, precautionary steps are being taken.
Increased number of water tankers, supply once
Aatishi said that we have doubled the time of running borewells to meet the water shortage. The borewells which used to run for 6-7 hours are now being run for 14 hours. The number of water tankers has also been increased. Since the water level in the Yamuna River is continuously decreasing, we have to take some more steps from today. From today, the supply of water twice a day in the parts of Delhi has been reduced. Now water will be supplied only once a day in these areas. The water supply for the second time will be saved and sent to those areas where there is no water at all, where water is coming for 15-20 minutes. The second time water will be collected and supplied to the more affected areas.
The situation is critical, Delhi should cooperate
Aatishi said today that we cannot leave some parts of Delhi on zero water supply. Her appeal is to use water rationally. Do not waste water at all. Do not wash your vehicles with open pipes, do not use water supply anywhere to wash vehicles. Water tanks should not overflow. Avoid wastage of water at home every day as much as possible. Manage water well. If the wastage of water does not stop, then challan can also be done.
The government can also go to court
Aatishi said that the Delhi government is constantly talking to the Haryana government. Still, the Haryana government is not releasing enough water in Yamuna. If there is no improvement in the water supply in the next one or two days, then we will approach the court. The government will also go to the Supreme Court. Atishi said that the Delhi government has signed an MoU to take 50 MGD water from Himachal. But Haryana has stopped it in the Upper Yamuna Board. Due to falling water levels, the production of about 30-45 MGD water decreases every day.
