Sri Lanka's team scored 222 runs in the first innings of this match. In response to this, if Pakistan's team came out to bat in their first innings, it could have been all out for less than 150 runs, but for the last wicket, captain Babar Azam and Naseem Shah shared a good partnership to take the team to 218 runs. Babar Azam scored a century. In this way, the Sri Lankan team got a lead of only 4 runs.

In such a situation, Sri Lanka's team scored 337 runs in the second innings for the loss of all wickets and thus a target of 342 runs was set in front of Pakistan. It was not easy for Pakistan to achieve this target in front of the Sri Lankan spinners, but Abdullah Shafiq made 160 runs and Babar Azam scored a half-century to ease the team's problems.
