After cutting the embankment of Pakistan's largest lake, efforts are being made to stop the water from it, which has submerged nearby cities. On Monday, 24 more dead increased in the death toll here. Record monsoon rains and melting glaciers from the country's northern mountains triggered severe flooding in Pakistan, affecting more than 300 million people and killing at least 1,314 people. 458 children were among the dead. This figure was given by the National Disaster Management Agency of Pakistan.

Blaming climate change for natural disasters

Extreme temperatures in the summer have led to severe flooding, for which both the government and the United Nations have blamed climate change. On Sunday, Pakistan cut an embankment along the Manchhri lake to release the rising water. Due to this, 1 lakh people were evacuated from their homes and it was expected that the flood water would be released but the water level of the lake rose alarmingly. "The water level in Lake Manchhri has not gone down," the province's irrigation minister, Jam Khan Shoro, told Reuters news agency.

10 billion dollars have been lost

When asked about other options to draw water from the lake, he refused. Let us tell you that due to the floods, there has been a loss of 10 billion dollars in Pakistan so far. Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have been the most affected, and most of the dead include women and children.

As part of measures to deal with floods, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last week asked the world not to turn a blind eye to this natural disaster. Guterres is likely to visit the flood-affected areas on September 9.
