Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated several key development projects worth over ₹10,000 crore during his visit to Kerala on Wednesday. These projects were launched during events held in the coastal city of Kochi.
Interacting with members of the fishing community in Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that renaming Kerala as Keralam is a moment of joy for the "Malayali" brothers. The fishermen community's role during the 2018 floods in Kerala was commendable. The Dheevara Sabha has been working for the rights of fishermen for over 50 years. The central government has taken various initiatives to strengthen the fishing community and its activities.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit worth over ₹5,500 crore at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's (BPCL) Kochi Refinery. He also inaugurated two major national highway projects, each costing over ₹2,000 crore. In the railway sector, various projects worth ₹142 crore were dedicated to the nation. A new train service was also flagged off, aimed at promoting connectivity and sustainable transportation in the region.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated three railway stations (Shoranur Junction, Kuttippuram Railway Station, and Changanassery Railway Station) redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations have been modernized at a cost of approximately ₹52 crore, including improved passenger amenities, streamlined circulation areas, and improved accessibility.
