
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore in Sikkim. On this occasion, describing Sikkim as the “Paradise of Eastern India,” he urged nature-loving tourists to visit the state’s Orchidarium. While addressing a gathering in Gangtok, the PM stated that Sikkim stands as a powerful symbol of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India)—especially at a time when attempts are being made to divide the country along religious and political lines.
He further remarked that Sikkim’s clean streets and pristine air serve as proof that its people are playing a leading role in nature conservation. Additionally, he emphasized that tourism constitutes the backbone of the state’s economy, and the government’s primary focus is on strengthening connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
PM Modi Plays Football with Children in Sikkim
Earlier in the morning, PM Modi mingled with the youth and infused the atmosphere with high energy by playing a game of football with them. During his visit to Sikkim, the PM shared this special moment on social media, noting that playing football with the youth on a Gangtok morning was an incredibly invigorating experience for him. He added that while playing with the youth, he felt a renewed sense of energy and positivity.
Sikkim Marks 50 Years: A Gift of ₹4,000 Crore in Development Projects
To mark the completion of 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood, a grand closing ceremony is being organized in the state, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This historic occasion is considered immensely significant for Sikkim, representing a confluence of both development and celebration. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will present the state with development projects worth approximately ₹4,000 crore—initiatives that are poised to play a pivotal role in strengthening infrastructure and amenities across various sectors. This visit is viewed as a major milestone for the Himalayan state, potentially charting a new course for its development in the years to come.
Visit to the Orchidarium and a Glimpse of the Modern Park
At the commencement of his itinerary, the Prime Minister will visit the Orchidarium located within the Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park. This park has been developed as a world-class Orchid Experience Centre, which is being hailed as a symbol of Sikkim’s natural beauty and biodiversity. Subsequently, the Prime Minister will attend the main ceremony at Paljor Stadium, where he will inaugurate various development projects and address the public. These projects span several sectors, including roads, health, education, energy, tourism, agriculture, and urban development. According to government officials, the objective of these projects is to accelerate holistic and inclusive development in Sikkim.
