There is welcome news for North India, which has been enduring the brunt of severe heat and heatwaves for the past several days. The Meteorological Department has indicated that weather patterns are set to change across a large portion of the country.
Due to the activation of a ‘Western Disturbance,’ a spell of rain, dust storms, and strong winds is expected over the next few days, which is likely to bring about a drop in temperature of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Relief Expected for the Capital Delhi and the NCR
The Meteorological Department has issued a special alert for the capital and its surrounding regions. Signs of a change in weather began to appear as early as Monday evening.
Weather Outlook: From Tuesday onwards, and for the next three days, skies will remain overcast; there is a possibility of light rain and showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Strong Winds: Gusty winds, blowing at speeds ranging from 40 to 60 km per hour, may occur.
Alert: Although the intensity of the heatwave may subside, temperatures are still expected to hover around 40°C. Visibility on roads may be reduced due to dust storms; therefore, exercise caution while driving.
Precautions: During dust storms, avoid standing under old trees, utility poles, or dilapidated hoardings. Individuals suffering from asthma or respiratory ailments are advised to wear face masks.
Western Disturbance: This active weather system, currently situated over Pakistan, is moving towards Northwest India. Consequently, dust-laden winds originating from the Thar Desert are reaching Delhi-NCR and the surrounding plains.
Cyclonic Circulation: Favorable weather conditions are developing across North India due to a cyclonic circulation formed over central Pakistan and Rajasthan.
