The Jeshoreshwari temple of Maa Kali in Satkhira, Bangladesh, is very famous. When PM Modi visited Bangladesh in 2021, he presented the crown of Maa Kali in that temple. Now the news has come that the crown given by PM Modi has been stolen from the temple. The gold-plated silver crown was stolen from the temple on Thursday afternoon.

Local police officials said on the matter, 'We are investigating the CCTV footage of the temple to identify the thief'. PM Modi visited the Jeshoreshwari temple on March 27, 2021, during his Bangladesh visit. That day he placed the crown on the idol of the goddess' head as a symbolic gesture. The name 'Jeshoreshwari' means 'Goddess of Jessore'.

Jeshoreshwari temple is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.

Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a member of the family who has been taking care of the temple for generations, told Bangladeshi media that the crown was made of silver and was gold-plated. The stolen crown holds cultural and religious significance for devotees. In Hindu mythology, the Jeshoreshwari temple is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas spread across India and neighboring countries.

This is the history of the temple.

The temple located in Ishwaripur in Satkhira is believed to have been built by a Brahmin named Anari in the late 12th century. He built a temple with 100 doors for Jeshoreshwari Peeth. Later in the 13th century, Lakshman Sen renovated it and finally, King Pratapaditya rebuilt the temple in the 16th century. During his Bangladesh visit, PM Modi had said that India would build a multipurpose community hall at the temple. He said that it would be useful for social, religious, and educational events for the local people, and at the same time, it would also serve as a shelter for everyone in times of disasters like cyclones.
