The name 'Jeshoreshwari' means 'Goddess of Jessore'.

Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a member of the family who has been taking care of the temple for generations, told Bangladeshi media that the crown was made of silver and was gold-plated. The temple located in Ishwaripur in Satkhira is believed to have been built by a Brahmin named Anari in the late 12th century. He built a temple with 100 doors for Jeshoreshwari Peeth. Later in the 13th century, Lakshman Sen renovated it and finally, King Pratapaditya rebuilt the temple in the 16th century. During his Bangladesh visit, PM Modi had said that India would build a multipurpose community hall at the temple. He said that it would be useful for social, religious, and educational events for the local people, and at the same time, it would also serve as a shelter for everyone in times of disasters like cyclones.
