Pollution: Breathing of Delhiites in trouble due to poisonous air, and air quality again in the severe category; Know AQI

Posted on 22nd Nov 2023 09:47 am by rohit kumar

The air quality in the country's capital Delhi is worsening. Due to this, the people of Delhi are in trouble. Along with cold winds blowing from north-western directions in Delhi-NCR, stubble smoke is also coming from neighboring states. Additionally, local factors are exacerbating the situation. In such a situation, there is no hope of relief from the increasing level of pollution in the capital for the next six days.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality index (AQI) across Delhi has reached the 'severe' category in many areas. AQI has been recorded at 405 in Ashok Vihar, 428 in Jahangirpuri, 404 in Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, and 403 in Dwarka Sector 8.

According to the Indian Management Training Institute, the predominant surface wind in Delhi on Tuesday was from the northwest direction at a speed of eight to four km per hour. The day was sunny which brought some relief. The estimated maximum mixing height on Tuesday was 1400 meters. On Wednesday the main surface wind may blow from the north-west direction. The wind speed will be up to four km per hour during the day while the wind will remain calm during the evening and night. Pollution levels are expected to increase due to the weakening of wind flow. At the same time, after the wind direction changes to a northwest/east direction from Thursday, the pollution level is expected to increase rapidly.

Mercury dropped two degrees below normal

The mercury dropped two degrees below normal due to the cold winds blowing in Delhi-NCR. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, New Delhi, the maximum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is two degrees less than normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 11.5 degrees, which is one degree below normal.
