President Ram Nath Kovind has expressed concern over the security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Punjab. The President met PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. During this, the PM gave full information to the President about the incident in Punjab.

In fact, on Wednesday, a case of great negligence in the security of PM Modi came to light in the Firozpur district of Punjab, just 30 km from the Pakistani border. The PM was on his way to Punjab to attend the rally by road. Here his convoy was stopped by the protesters, due to which the PM was stuck on the flyover for about 20 minutes. After this, finally, the further program had to be canceled and the Prime Minister had to return to Delhi.

Prime Minister Modi was to lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore here. The Home Ministry said in a statement that PM Modi reached Bathinda on Wednesday morning, from where he was to go to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter. Due to rain and bad weather, the Prime Minister waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear. The statement said that when the weather did not improve, it was decided that he would go to the National Martyrs Memorial by road, which would take more than two hours. After necessary confirmation of the necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police, the Prime Minister proceeded to travel by road.

When the Prime Minister's convoy reached a flyover, about 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, it was found that some protesters blocked the road. During this, the Prime Minister was stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes. According to the statement, this was a major lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. The program and travel plan of the Prime Minister had been communicated to the Punjab Government long back. According to the statement, the Punjab government had to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready as per the procedure.

It said, because of the contingency plan, the Punjab government had to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which was not deployed. After this security lapse, it was decided to return to Bathinda airport. The statement further said that only Punjab Police knew the right path of PM and this kind of behavior of police has never been seen before. Taking cognizance of the serious security lapse, the Home Ministry has sought a detailed report from the Punjab government. The state government has also been asked to fix the responsibility of this lapse and take strict action.
