The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab presented its first budget on Monday. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema introduced it in the assembly. Cheema has estimated the budget expenditure of one lakh 55 thousand 860 crores for 2022-23. This is 14 percent more than last year. No new tax has been imposed on the budget. The AAP government will fulfill its promise of free electricity from July 1. However, no mention was made in this budget about the promise of giving 1000 rupees per month to women above the age of 18 years. The opposition has called it cheating on women.

Presenting the budget, Cheema said the focus of the government is to restore the deteriorating financial situation, increase income, reduce debt and ensure effective and efficient use of public funds. He said a line in his speech... 'The result of my passion will come out, noor will come out of this dark sea'.
