RR vs DC: Starc's Presence Will Bolster Delhi; An Exciting Clash Between Rajasthan Royals and Capitals Today

Posted on 1st May 2026 12:45 pm by rohit kumar

Delhi Capitals have little time to dwell on the disappointing results of their recent matches, as the team is set to face a confident Rajasthan Royals side in an Indian Premier League clash on Friday. Led by Axar Patel, this season has proven to be quite a challenging one for the Delhi squad.

The team’s performance has been marked by significant inconsistency over their last two matches. On one hand, they posted a total exceeding 250 runs—only to see their opponents chase down that target in a world-record-breaking effort. On the other hand, they were bundled out for a mere 75 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Lack of Consistency in Batting

Delhi’s primary concern has been the lack of consistency in their batting lineup. While players such as KL Rahul, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Sameer Rizvi have made valuable contributions in spurts, the team as a collective unit has failed to deliver a cohesive performance.

In the previous match, Abhishek Porel—batting as an ‘Impact Player’—saved the team from the embarrassment of being bowled out for a paltry total. This was one of the few positive takeaways from that game. Consequently, the team management may consider giving him a spot in the starting XI.

Stark Set for Return

There is also some good news on the bowling front. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is poised to make his return to the squad after receiving clearance from Cricket Australia to resume playing from May 1st. With Lungi Ngidi currently unavailable, Starc’s inclusion could prove to be a much-needed and timely boost for Delhi.

It is expected that he will take the place of either Kyle Jamieson or Dushmantha Chameera. While Delhi’s bowlers failed to make a significant impact while attempting to defend a low target of 75 runs in the last match, they will now need to bowl with even greater precision against Rajasthan’s formidable batting lineup.

Rajasthan’s Top Order: Highly Aggressive

Rajasthan’s top order has been notably aggressive. Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi has fearlessly stood his ground against world-class bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins right from the start, while Yashasvi Jaiswal also appears to be in excellent form. Currently occupying the fourth spot on the points table, the Rajasthan Royals are entering this match with full confidence.

They recently handed the Punjab Kings their first defeat of the season. This marked the team’s sixth victory in nine matches. Another positive for Rajasthan is that, following a slow start, their middle order has now also found its rhythm. This provides them with greater balance and makes them a difficult side to contain throughout the entire innings.

The Rajasthan team will be looking to deliver another strong performance against a Delhi bowling attack that is currently under pressure. For Delhi, the situation is clear: their batsmen need to deliver a collective performance rather than relying solely on individual efforts. With the return of Starc, the bowlers must find ways to curb the flow of runs, particularly against Rajasthan’s aggressive top order.
