Severe cold in North India: dense fog in Delhi; More than 100 flights canceled on Wednesday

Winter is increasing in the country. Alam is that Delhi has become colder than Nainital. According to the Delhi Airport Authority, more than 100 flights were canceled due to dense fog in Delhi on Wednesday. Some of these were diverted to the nearest airport.

 

Some parts of the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while it was 7 degrees Celsius in Dehradun, 6.2 degrees Celsius in Dharamsala, and 7.2 degrees Celsius in Nainital.

 

Apart from Delhi, severe cold conditions have also started in Haryana, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan. Along with this, the dense fog has increased the problems of the people. Fog reduced visibility to just 50 meters in the national capital, affecting road traffic and train movement.

Due to the severe cold wave in Himachal Pradesh, the minimum temperature at most places went below the freezing point. Keylong recorded -7.9 degrees Celsius, Kusumassery -5.0 degrees Celsius, Kalpa -3.6 degrees Celsius, Manali -0.6 degrees Celsius and Bhuntar -0.4 degrees Celsius. Solan and Shimla recorded minimum temperatures of 2.3 and 4.5 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall at different places in the state on Thursday.

Fog enveloped many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday. According to a report from the Meteorological Center, the temperature of Narnaul in Haryana was recorded as one degree Celsius, four notches below normal. Bathinda in Punjab recorded a temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius.

 

Amritsar recorded a low of five degrees Celsius, while Ludhiana recorded a low of 6.6 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be dense fog in most districts of Punjab on Wednesday, which will cause a lot of trouble to the people.

According to meteorologists, five days from December 31 to January 4 could be the coldest days of this season. During this, the night temperature in some areas of Punjab, Haryana can go down to minus. At the same time, the night temperature in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh will be between 1 to 4 degrees. The maximum temperature of the day is likely to remain in the range of 10 to 14 degrees.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 'very dense' fog occurs when the visibility is between 0 and 50 meters, 51 and 200 meters 'dense' fog, 201 and 500 'moderate' fog, and 501 and 1,000' Shallow fog.

 

The IMD declares a cold wave if the minimum temperature in the plains falls by four degrees Celsius or when the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or less and is 4.5 degrees below normal. A 'severe' cold wave occurs when the minimum temperature drops by two degrees Celsius or the departure from normal exceeds 6.4 degrees Celsius.
