
Senior Congress leader and former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil breathed his last this morning in Latur, Maharashtra. He was 90 years old and passed away at his home in Latur at around 6:30 am. Shivraj Patil had been ill for a long time and was being treated at home. His full name was Shivraj Patil Chakurkar. He held the positions of Speaker of the Lok Sabha and various Union Ministers.
His funeral is expected to take place on Saturday. His family includes his son Shailesh Patil, daughter-in-law Archana, who contested the assembly elections from Latur city last year on a BJP ticket against Congress's Amit Deshmukh, and two granddaughters.
Patil was the country's Home Minister at the time of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
Shivraj Patil held several prestigious positions in his political career. Hailing from Maharashtra, Shivraj Patil served as a Member of Parliament from Latur in Marathwada. He also served as a Member of Parliament from Latur Rural from 1973 to 1980. After 1980, he won the Latur Lok Sabha seat and entered Parliament. He won seven times from the Latur Lok Sabha constituency. It should be noted that Shivraj Patil was the country's Home Minister at the time of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack.
