With this win, New Zealand moved to the top of the World Cup Super League standings. He has 160 points in 22 matches. If the Kiwis win the series 3-0, they will overtake Australia to become the number-one ODI team in the world.

With this defeat, it has become difficult for Sri Lanka to make a place in the ODI World Cup directly. The Sri Lankan team is placed 10th in the Super League standings with 77 points, with two more matches to play.

Only the top eight teams in the Super League will get a direct berth in the World Cup. This World Cup is to be held in India this year. Even if the Sri Lankan team wins the next two ODIs of the series, it will have to depend on the results of the other teams to qualify directly.
