Team India's Possible Playing XI: Gill, Iyer, and Vihari can replace Pujara in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

The 2-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is going to start from Friday. The first match will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. After making a clean sweep in the T20 series, Team India's eyes will be on becoming the best in Tests as well. This is also going to be Rohit Sharma's first series as Test captain.

Who will play the opening and number 3

Captain Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal will be seen handling the responsibility of India's opening in the Mohali Test. Rohit, who has not played a Test match since the tour of England last year, will return to the format after six months. At the same time, the South Africa Test series was not special for Mayank. He scored only 135 runs in 3 matches at an average of 22.50. He would also like to return to form in this series.

Shubman Gill can be seen playing in place of Cheteshwar Pujara at number 3. Gill could not go on the tour of Africa due to injury, but from this series, he can be seen in a new role. Gill has played 10 Tests so far and in all, he has played as an opener. In Mohali, he may get a chance in place of Pujara.

Kohli is at number 4, but who is at number 5

Former captain Virat Kohli will be seen playing at number 4. This will be Virat's 100th Test match. Kohli will be the 12th and 71st player in the world to achieve this historic milestone for India. Kohli has not scored a century in international cricket for the last two years, so it is expected that he will score a century in his 100th Test against Sri Lanka.

There are two contenders to replace Ajinkya Rahane at No. Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari... Iyer was seen in amazing form in the T20 series against Sri Lanka and he also got the Player of the Series award. Earlier last year, he scored a century on his Test debut against New Zealand.

At the same time, Vihari is also in excellent form. He scored 59 in the first innings and 106 in the second innings against Cuttack in the Ranji Trophy. Vihari has proved his worth every time he gets a chance. In the Johannesburg Test match against Africa, he scored 20 off 53 balls in the first innings and 40 not out off 84 balls in difficult conditions during the second innings. It is going to be very difficult for captain Rohit Sharma to select between Shreyas and Hanuma.

Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant

The responsibility of keeping will be on the shoulders of Rishabh Pant. Pant said. He scored a century in his last test match against Africa. He will be expected to perform well in the Sri Lanka series as well. In 6 test matches played in India, Rishabh has scored 454 runs with an average of 65.

All-rounders and spinners

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will be seen handling the spin department as all-rounders. Jadeja is making a comeback in the Test team. Earlier, he made a strong comeback in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Jadeja can play an important role in this series with the ball and the bat. In 57 matches he has taken 2195 runs and 232 wickets.

Talking about R Ashwin, the Africa tour was very bad for him. He could take only 3 wickets in 3 matches. However, facing Ashwin on Indian soil will not be easy for the Sri Lankan team. In 84 matches played so far, he has taken 430 wickets and scored 2844 runs.

how will pace attack

The command of fast bowling will be with the vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah. Apart from them, Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj are set to play in the playing XI. Bumrah took 12 wickets in 3 Test matches against Africa, while Shami had 14 wickets in his account.

Shami was rested after the Africa tour. He will also be ready for a strong comeback in the team from the Sri Lanka series. Talking about Siraj, the Africa Test series was very bad for him. He could take only 3 wickets in 2 matches. However, after this, he had a great performance in the limited-overs series.

India's Possible XI for Mohali Test

Rohit Sharma (capt), Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer/Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.
