Threatening letters to Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus and attacks on people belonging to these communities have created an atmosphere of panic and insecurity in the Valley. Recently a new threatening letter to Kashmiri Pandits surfaced in Pandit Colony of Veerwan Baramulla. A person living in the colony told that he got this letter by post.

Asked Kashmiri Pandits and other non-Muslims to convert to Islam

A letter from the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Islam that has surfaced in Baramulla has threatened Kashmiri Pandits and other non-Muslims to convert to Islam or face attacks by the terrorist organization. A Pandit living in the colony told that the threatening letter arrived by post, which was received by the security personnel of the colony.

Police said will increase the security of the camp

A resident of the colony said that he went to the Deputy Commissioner and SSP Baramulla with the letter and informed them. He asked to meet the SHO. He said the police said they would increase the security of the camp, but personal protection for everyone is not possible.

350 people are living in this pandit colony

Said that around 350 people are living in this Pandit Colony and 150 of them are such who go out to work every day. According to the police, they are investigating the threat letter. Social activist Vijay Raina and the sarpanch of Devsar Kulgam have appealed to the LG to take the threat letter seriously.

Lashkar-e-Islam was wiped out in 2015

According to the police, Lashkar-e-Islam was wiped out in 2015. Since then their activity was not seen anywhere in Kashmir. Checking the threat letter. Meanwhile, the security of all Kashmiri Pandits and non-Muslims living in Kashmir is constantly being reviewed.

Security forces intensify anti-terrorist operations

There is an atmosphere of fear among Kashmiri Pandits and Hindus after the recent killings. He is shocked. They say that after these murders, they are afraid to leave their homes. Although the security forces have intensified the anti-terrorist operations and started a major crackdown on terrorists as well as their supporters, this soft target killing remains a major challenge for the security forces.

Methods changed, the mentality is still the same

Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) President Sanjay Tikku said that the situation in the Kashmir Valley is once again moving towards the 90s. Tikku said the KPSS had already said that the situation in the Kashmir Valley was going back to the 1990s. Lists of murders in mosques were circulated in 1990, while in 2022 these lists were put on the internet and social media. The methods have changed, but the mindset is the same.

Barbaric acts are not possible without the support of the local population

Sanjay Tikku said that heinous and barbaric acts are not possible without the support of the local population. The roles of Kashmiri society, though small in number, cannot be completely absolved of the crimes targeted against Kashmiri Pandits, Kashmiri Hindus living in the Kashmiri Valley. Said that every known or unknown gunman is a local person and the OGWs helping them are also from our Kashmiri society.

security of minorities at stake

Tikku said the collective silence creates a trust deficit with never-ending vacancies. He said that the safety of minorities was at stake and the government was not concerned with the situation. This clearly shows that either the administration is not interested in saving the minorities or they are incapable of handling the situation. In both cases, Kashmir is thrown into the darkness that engulfed the place in the early 1990s.

Government fails to secure again

Tikku said that in 1990 the coalition government failed to secure the minorities in the Kashmir Valley, which led to a mass exodus, and in the last three years, the same government failed again to secure the minorities living in Kashmir. It shows that the Kashmiri minorities will have to leave the Kashmir Valley again due to the failure of the Kashmiri society and administration.
