The danger of sticky bombs causing havoc on Amarnath Yatra: jawans increased by one and a half times, if attacked from the sky, wiped out in the air

The pilgrimage to Baba Amarnath, situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters, is at risk of a sticky bomb that can devastate minutes this time. This 43-day-long journey is taking place after two years. This is the first visit even after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

Inspector General of Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed to Bhaskar that sticky bombs and drone attacks are the two major threats this year, but a complete plan to avoid both of them is also ready. The answer to the drone will be given in the air itself.

So far more than 3 lakh people have registered for the Amarnath Yatra, which will run from June 30 to August 11. The yatra is happening after two years, so the number of devotees can reach 8 lakhs, breaking all the old records.

Bhaskar's team is present at the spot for coverage of the yatra. In the first story, we are keeping the complete picture of security related to Amarnath Yatra in front of you.

What is the preparedness to deal with the dangers….

For the first time, 350 companies of the Center have been deployed in the Amarnath Yatra. In these, more than 40 thousand personnel of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed.

Three-level security, the army on mountain and forest

According to IG Kumar, the journey will be covered by three levels of security. CAPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police have made joint preparations for the Road Opening Party (ROP).

It is the responsibility of the army to keep the high hills and dense forests safe. All link roads will also be completely secure.

Drones are monitoring the journey through CCTV cameras. At the same time, we have also deployed sharpshooters and snipers at the required locations.

NDRF, UTSDRF, and MRT have also been deployed at critical locations. RFID tags have been provided for vehicles and passengers joining the journey. Apart from Jammu and Kashmir Police, 350 companies of central forces have been deployed.

Which forces are stationed where?

Army: The army is stationed in the mountains. Because infiltration can happen from across the border.

CRPF: Most of the jawans are deployed in the journey only from CRPF. They will be among the common devotees and will protect the walkway from base camp to foot.

BSF: The main responsibility of the BSF will be to keep an eye on the infiltration from across the border. At the same time, BSF jawans will be ready in security along with CRPF. Will give security around the camp and also in the form of a Road Opening Party, ie ROP.

Jammu and Kashmir Police: Only the police are getting local inputs. The police have the biggest role in the whole coordination. Only the top police officers are finalizing the security plan along with other agencies.

ITBP: Along with ITBP, SSB personnel have also been put on duty. They are specially entrusted with the responsibility of road safety.

Different grids, different responsibilities

Anti-Infiltration Grid: This grid has been deployed between Lakhanpur to Jammu to prevent cross-border infiltration.

Road Opening Party and Convoy Grid: This grid has been deployed from Jammu to Banihal Tunnel so that the batches of vehicles can be passed safely on the way.

Entry Drone Grid: This grid has been prepared to deal with the threat of drone attacks. This grid will monitor every activity in the air and it will be the job of this grid to identify and counter any suspicious drone.

Special training of drivers/conductors: Special training related to movement is being given to the people associated with transportation. Under this, during the journey stop monitoring, maintenance, and warning about the dangers of sticky bombs is being made. Along with this, instructions have been given to keep a strict vigil on those coming near the vehicle.

Divided each district into separate zones and sectors

For strong security, every district has been divided into different zones and sectors. The SP rank officer has been deployed in the zone. Three to four officers of DSP rank are posted in the sector. A Quick Response Team (QRT) has been constituted for an emergency.

Which security force has which responsibility?

Responsibility of Passenger Camps: CRPF + JKP

Road Opening Party and Quick Response Team: CRPF + Army

Langar, Local Camps, and Law & Order: CISF + JKP

Area Domination and High Altitude Surveillance: Army + BSF

Expert View: The real challenge after Pahalgam or Baltal

Former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Ved says that Amarnath pilgrims come first and stay at the base camp in Jammu. The process of security starts from these base camps. From here the journey through complete security reaches the base camp of Pahalgam or Baltal, from where the original journey begins. After Pahalgam, there is a lot of emphasis on the security of camps like Chandanwadi and Sheshnag.

Because of the recent terrorist incidents, the danger of drone attacks has increased in this time's Amarnath Yatra. Terrorists can attack the drone by placing a payload. Small sticky bombs on vehicles and buses are also a big security threat. Terrorists can easily plant it and they prove fatal.

The mountainous roads of Pahalgam and Baltal, where trekking takes place, also need security cover, as we have seen attacks on high hills even in the 1990s.

The DGP of the state decides the force deployment of the teams of different security forces to the SSP of each district. Army, CRPF, and BSF have an important role in ROP i.e. Road Opening Party. At the same time, Jammu and Kashmir Police are deployed for General Administration.
