Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Bengaluru. People are in a bad condition due to heavy rains for the last 36 hours. Life remained affected on Tuesday as well. Traffic jams occurred at many places amid submerged roads. At the same time, the number of rain-related deaths in the state has increased to five.

 

Lower floors are submerged halfway.

Officials said that due to heavy rains, an island-like situation was created in the Sai Layout of the city. Here, the lower floors of the houses are half submerged. Due to this, people are not able to get out of their houses.

 

150 people were evacuated to safer places

Officials said that about 150 people were evacuated to safer places on Monday. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMB) arranged food and water for the people in Sai Layout.

 

People have complained that the municipal agencies are not concerned about the problems of the people living in Sai Layout. Due to heavy rains, an orphanage in Hennur in the city also got flooded.

 

People present in the orphanage were rescued.

The fire brigade and NDRF team together rescued the people present in the orphanage. Due to the flooding of many areas like Manyata Tech Park and Silk Board Junction, people faced a lot of difficulties in commuting there. Many vehicles got stuck on the roads due to waterlogging. Due to this, there was a traffic jam in many parts of the city.

 

Two people died due to an electric shock.

The police said on Tuesday that two people, including a 12-year-old child, died due to electric shock while trying to drain out the rainwater that had entered an apartment in the city. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the problem of flooding has been resolved in 70 percent of the identified areas in Bengaluru.

 

Shivakumar visited the affected areas, including Sai Layout, Manyata Tech Park, and Silk Board Junction in Bengaluru, and said that he has identified 210 flood-affected areas in the city.

 

Heavy rains inundate Guwahati

 

Heavy overnight rains in Guwahati, Assam inundated several roads and residential areas, disrupting vehicular movement and causing inconvenience to city residents on Tuesday. In some areas of the city, people were seen wading through knee-deep water, while in many areas the water level reached chest level.

 

Waterlogging in many areas

 

More than 10 areas, including Zoo Road, Naveen Nagar, Hatigaon, Ganeshguri, Geeta Nagar, Maligaon, Hidayatpur, Guwahati Club, Ulubari, Lachit Nagar, Chandmari, and Panjabari are flooded.

 

Due to overnight rains, many areas, including GS Road Jorabat, Tarun Nagar, Jatia, Jyotikuchi, Ghoramara, VIP Road, Rukmini Village, Survey, and Chhatribari, were waterlogged.

 

Minister visits flood-hit areas

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Malla Barua visited some of the flood-hit areas on a two-wheeler. The government is trying to drain out floodwater from residential areas, but it is not very effective yet.

 

He also reiterated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's stance that the Meghalaya-based University of Science and Technology carried out "flood jihad," which resulted in heavy flooding in the state capital.

 

Heavy rains in Kerala, red alert in four districts

The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a red alert for four districts of north Kerala, including Wayanad, as heavy rains continued to lash various parts of the region.

 

According to officials, heavy waterlogging has been reported in several urban centres, affecting daily life and the traffic system in north Kerala.

A red alert has been issued for Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode districts, while an orange alert has been issued for Palakkad, Malappuram, and Thrissur. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta districts.
