New Delhi: Those who attack doctors and medical workers will be jailed for seven. The ordinance that brought the Modi government against the attack on doctors and medical workers has now come into force. President Ordinance Ram Nath Kovind has approved this ordinance. Along with this, notification to implement the ordinance has also been issued.

After the implementation of this ordinance, there can be a maximum jail term of seven years for assaulting doctors and other medical staff. Along with this, you will also have to face heavy fines. The Indian Medical Association had also protested against these attacks.

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved an ordinance to implement this stringent law immediately. With the approval of President Ram Nath Kovind, the law will come into force. Through the Ordinance, stringent provisions have been added to the epidemic law 1897. The most important aspect of the proposed law is that in this, a provision has been made for the doctors to treat incidents like leaving the house due to the fight against the corona, as harassment.

Announcing the decision after the cabinet meeting, Prakash Javadekar said that violence against medical teams will not be tolerated. The proposed law makes the assault or harassment of doctors, nurses and paramedic staff including all other health workers non-bailable in the category of cognizable offense. In such cases, a provision has been made to start the case in 1 month and the case should be decided within 1 year. A provision of strict punishment has been made for those found guilty. The punishment is divided into two categories, making its base the severity of attack and harassment. If the crime is not serious, then there can be imprisonment for 3 months to 5 years as punishment.

Also, a provision has been made for fine ranging from 50 thousand to 2 lakh rupees. At the same time, if there is a serious loss, there is a provision for imprisonment ranging from 6 months to 7 years, along with fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. Prakash Javadekar said that the government's preparations are constantly going on in the fight against Corona. In this order, a total of 723 corona dedicated hospitals have been built in the country so far. A total of 1.86 lakh beds have been arranged out of which 24 thousand beds are ICU beds. There are 12190 beds in ICU beds with ventilators.
