On January 6, 2021, the 8th hearing was held in the US regarding the attack by supporters of former President Donald Trump on Capitol Hill (US Parliament). The US Congressional Committee hearing the case has held former President Donald Trump responsible for the violence.

Committee chairman Benny Thompson said – Trump did not fail to take action, but he decided not to take action during the violence. He chose the path of anarchy and corruption to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. He lied and misused his position. They tried to destroy our democratic institutions.

who testified in the 8th hearing

Trump's aides, then Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger and Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Mathews testified against him. Both had resigned from their posts following the violence. In addition to Pottinger and Matthews, several others testified. Videos of testimonies of key officials of the then-Trump government were also presented.

Highlights of the Inquiry Committee

Trump was sitting in the dining room watching the violence on TV for 187 minutes after the violence began.

Trump was not ready to listen to anyone. He was asked several times to stop the violence and take steps to deport people.

Trump did not ask the heads of law enforcement or national security departments for help to stop the violence.

Trump was not ready to accept that the election was over and he was defeated. He had mentioned this in the video that surfaced a day after the violence.

Trump also declined to say that the mob broke the law. He called the crowd patriots. He asked the people to always remember this day. Trump has no regrets about this.

The violence on Capitol Hill on 6 January 2021 was no accident. This was Trump's last stand. Trump perpetrated riots and attempted a coup.

Based on testimony from former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, the committee agreed that no one in the White House condoned the violence.

The White House was divided into 3 factions

In the last hearing, it was reported that a group was asking Trump to stop the violence. His daughter Ivanka Trump was included in this group. In the second group were some of Trump's advisors. He was neutral about the matter. He knew that action must be taken, but Trump would not act immediately. The third group belonged to the deflecting-blame category. This included former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. This group said that those who were doing the violence were not Trump supporters.
