Gaganyaatr Shubhanshu Shukla, who hoisted the Indian flag for the first time on the ISS and raised the pride of more than 140 crore Indians to the seventh heaven, is returning after a historic space journey.

140 crore people are waiting eagerly to welcome the country's glorious son. After staying on the International Space Station (ISS) for 18 days, Shubhanshu will land on the California coast in the Pacific Ocean at 3:01 pm on Tuesday with his three fellow astronauts of the Axiom-4 mission.

It will take 22 hours to reach Earth.

It will take about 22 and a half hours to reach the Earth from the ISS. Shubhanshu and three other astronauts of the Axiom-4 mission left for the journey to Earth. SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft separated from the ISS on Monday.

The undocking process took place at around 4:45 pm Indian time. There was a delay of 10 minutes in undocking. After undocking, it fired thrusters twice to move away from the orbital laboratory.

Astronauts of the Axiom-4 mission reached ISS on 26 June

Under Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu and three other astronauts - mission commander American astronaut Peggy Whitson, Poland's Slavosz Ujnanski-Wisniewski, Hungary's Tibor Kapu - reached ISS on 26 June. Since joining the ISS, these astronauts covered a distance of about 76 lakh miles and made 288 orbits around the Earth for about 433 hours or 18 days.

Spacecraft departed from ISS on Monday.

Astronaut Shubhanshu and three other astronauts who arrived in the Dragon spacecraft about two hours before undocking boarded the spacecraft about two hours before undocking. They wore their spacesuits and closed the hatch connecting the spacecraft to the ISS at 2:37 pm Indian time.

Spacecraft will land on the coast of California.

After leaving the safe zone around the space station, the astronauts took off their spacesuits for the 22 and a half hour journey back to Earth. Before starting the de-orbit process for splashdown, the astronauts will then wear spacesuits. The splashdown is scheduled on July 15 at 3:01 pm Indian time on the California coast.

The landing of a spacecraft in water is called a splashdown. After coming to Earth, the astronauts will have to undergo a rehabilitation program (about seven days) so that they can adapt to the Earth's gravity.
