Turkish President Richep Tayyip Erdogan has once again raised the slogan of Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly. Erdogan has adopted this stance even after raising strong objections from India's side. On this, India has also raised the issue of Cyprus besieging Turkey. Within hours of Erdogan's statement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Kavusoglu and raised the issue of Cyprus. Giving information about this meeting, Jaishankar also tweeted. He wrote, 'Met with the Foreign Minister of Turkey and talked to him on many issues. Among them is the crisis in Ukraine. Food security, G20 countries, and Cyprus.
The issue of Cyprus has always been a pain for Turkey and India has suppressed this vein in return for speaking on Kashmir. This diplomacy of India is being considered a befitting reply to Turkey's Kashmir anger. The Cyprus crisis began in 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern part. The situation in Cyprus had worsened due to the military coup and taking advantage of it, Turkey occupied it. Since then, India has been in favor that the matter should be resolved following the United Nations.
India raised the issue of Cyprus
India has always had good relations with Cyprus and has been supportive of India's stand on Kashmir issues for the past 5 decades. Addressing the United Nations, a few hours before Jaishankar and the Turkish foreign minister met, Erdogan, said 75 years have passed since India and Pakistan became independent and sovereign countries, but so far the two countries do not have peaceful relations. it's unfortunate. We hope that the Kashmir issue will be resolved and there will be lasting peace. Let us tell you that in the last few years, the President of Turkey has raised the issue of Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly several times.
Turkey did it in 2020 and 2021 too
Earlier in 2021, Erdogan, referring to Kashmir, said that we hope that both sides will resolve this issue peacefully. At the same time 2020 also raised this issue. Both times there was a befitting reply from India. It is worth noting that recently, Turkish President Erdogan met PM Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the SCO summit. Turkey is going through a deep economic crisis these days. In such a situation, their meeting was seen as an attempt to improve business relations.
