Following India's 96-run victory over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash prize of ₹131 crore (approximately ₹1.31 billion) for Team India. According to news agency PTI, this amount includes 15 players, coaching staff, and other support staff.
60 million more than last time
The BCCI has increased the cash prize by ₹60 million (approximately ₹1.25 billion) compared to the previous time. The Indian men's team previously won the T20 World Cup in 2024, where the winning team received a prize of ₹1.25 billion (approximately ₹1.25 billion). Furthermore, by winning the final, India received a prize money of ₹2.34 million (approximately ₹21.5 crore) from the International Cricket Council (ICC), while runner-up New Zealand received ₹1.17 million (approximately ₹10.75 crore).
India has won six ICC trophies.
Since 2024, India has won six ICC trophies. In addition to the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, the 2025 Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup, and the 2026 Men's Under-19 World Cup, the 2026 Men's World Cup, the BCCI has opened its coffers for winning all these tournaments. However, there is a significant difference in the amounts. The BCCI announced a cash prize of ₹58 crore for Rohit Sharma and his team for winning the 2025 Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, the BCCI awarded the team ₹5 crore for winning the 2025 Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Fans are raising questions.
Regarding Harmanpreet Kaur's team that won the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, the BCCI announced a cash prize of ₹51 crore for winning the World Cup. Meanwhile, the BCCI awarded Ayush Mhatre's team, which won the Under-19 World Cup in 2026, a prize money of ₹7.5 crore. However, fans are raising questions about this discrepancy. They question why the BCCI awarded the team that won the Women's ODI World Cup less than the team that won the Champions Trophy. Fans are also demanding an increase in the prize money for the Under-19 World Cup-winning team. Fans question the women's team's first ODI World Cup win, so why did they receive such a small amount?
India won the final by 96 runs.
India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. This time, Suryakumar Yadav led the charge. India became the first country to retain the ICC Men's T20 World Cup title. With this, India has become the first country to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup three times. In the final match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, India batted first and scored 255 for 5. In reply, the Kiwis were bowled out for just 159 in 19 overs.
