So far two cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in the country.

On July 15, a 35-year-old man was infected with monkeypox in Kollam, Kerala.

Three days later i.e. on July 18, a 31-year-old man had monkeypox in Kannur, Kerala.

Monkeypox has spread to more than 75 countries. Its cases are increasing continuously. The World Health Organization (WHO) is going to hold a meeting on 21 July regarding this.

Question 1: What is monkeypox?

Answer: Monkeypox is an orthodox virus with symptoms similar to smallpox. Although it is far less serious than smallpox. It was first detected in 1958 in monkeys kept for research. Monkeypox was first detected in humans in 1970.

Question 2: What are the symptoms of monkeypox?

Answer: According to Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, Information Experts, CMHO Bhopal, get alerted as soon as you see the following symptoms…

fever.

body pain.

To get cold

Fatigue and lethargy.

Muscle pain.

A very itchy rash may appear during fever.

Rashes and rash may also appear on the face, hands, and other parts of the body.

Know how monkeypox spreads from Dr. Vikrant Shah, a physician and infection specialist

Monkeypox is a zoonosis disease. It spreads from animal to human. it is believed that…

It spreads through monkeys as well as animals like rats, and squirrels.

The virus can also spread through the eyes, nose, and mouth of an infected person.

It is also spread by touching the patient\'s clothes, utensils, and bedding.

Get tested as soon as you see symptoms

According to ICMR scientist Dr. Aparna Mukherjee, people need not panic. We should keep an eye out for unusual symptoms like high fever, body aches, rashes, etc. Especially those who have recently traveled to monkeypox-affected countries.

As soon as you see the symptoms of monkeypox, get a sample test done through the fluid coming out of them. The National Institute of Virology (NIV) is the registered lab for testing these viruses.

Avoid physical contact if you have symptoms of monkeypox - WHO, CDC, and UKHSA

According to the WHO i.e. World Health Organization, monkeypox can also spread through intimate relations. Gay and homo people are at higher risk of getting infected.

According to the CDC i.e. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hugging, kissing and face-to-face contact with an infected person can cause infection.

UKHSA, the UK Health Security Agency, says that in most cases of monkeypox found in the UK, patients have identified themselves as \'gay\' or homo.

Question 3: Which people are more prone to monkeypox?

Answer: According to the World Health Organization, pregnant women are at higher risk. These viruses can be serious for these people. With this, people with very weak immunity, and children younger than 5 years can fall prey to it quickly.

Question 4: How can children below 5 years of age be protected from monkeypox?

Answer: Keep these 4 things in mind-

If your child\'s immune system is weak, then correct his diet.

Get the child to do physical activity, do not let the child play games on the computer or mobile throughout the day.

If the child\'s body is showing rash and he has a fever, then do not take home remedies, contact the doctor.

Prevent the child from coming in contact with an unknown and sick person.

This will strengthen his immunity. If the immunity is good, then the risk to the child will be less due to viral infection and even if he falls ill, then he will recover soon.

Important: The incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) of monkeypox is usually 7-14 days, but it can also be 5-21 days.

There have been cases of monkeypox in these countries

More than 75 countries including India, USA, UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Austria, Canary Islands, Israel, and Switzerland.

Know what is the treatment of monkeypox on the go

According to the WHO website, there is currently no concrete cure for monkeypox, but the smallpox vaccine is up to 85% effective against monkeypox. The smallpox vaccine is not yet available to the general public.
