The US Senate has passed a bill citing national security. The White House hailed a US Senate bill banning it, which could lead to a complete ban on its use.
The White House on Tuesday welcomed legislation that would allow the US to ban the Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok, a statement said.
India banned TikTok in mid-2020. During that time the Indian government cracked down on 59 Chinese-owned apps, claiming that they were covertly transmitting users' data to servers outside India.
These countries banned Tiktok
Some many countries and regions have implemented partial or complete bans on TikTok. India banned TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps, including messaging app WeChat, in 2020 over privacy and security concerns.
Let us tell you that this ban came soon after the clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers on the disputed Himalayan border, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and dozens were injured. India had given the companies a chance to answer questions on privacy and security requirements but made the ban permanent through January 2021.
