Etawah Jail in Uttar Pradesh resonated with firing at 3 am on Saturday. The sudden firing also stirred the prisoners. By the time the guards present in the jail premises could understand something, the attackers fled. This incident has once again raised questions on the security of jails in UP.

In Etawah's District Jail, Deputy Jailor SH Jafri was going from his residence at around 3:30 in the night to inspect the jail premises. During this, some people surrounded him on the way and opened fire, and fled after threatening to kill him. The deputy jailer says that many rounds were fired, the people who fired the shots fled.

Questions have arisen again regarding the security in the jail premises regarding the incident. He informed the matter to the police station civil line. Police reached the spot and started an investigation. The police have not found bullet kiosks there but bullet marks have been found on the doors and walls. The police are examining the CCTV footage of the incident.

SH Jafri had left his residence late at around 3.30 pm for the jail to patrol the morning shift. Just a hundred meters away from the barracks of the jail, three or four people were seen standing between the house and the jail, on which he interrupted. As soon as he was interrupted, the miscreants started firing by abusing them. Jafri fled to his residence after the firing incident.

Even after entering them, the miscreants chased and tried to open the door. When the door was not opened, the miscreants fired several shots at the door. The Deputy Jailor informed the police along with the higher officials about the incident. Within a short time, CO City Rakesh Vashisht reached with the heavy police force but by then the miscreants had fled. According to Jail Superintendent Raj Kishore Singh, the attack on the deputy jailer must have been done by a miscreant who was lodged in the jail, it is being investigated.

Deputy jailor SH Jafri was attacked by a miscreant at his residence about two years ago as well. Then he clashed with the crook. Even then the miscreant had run away while firing. SSP Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh inspected the spot and talked to the Deputy Jailor, he told me that according to the complaint being given by the Deputy Jailor, a case will be registered.
